Past - Del Piero

Present - Not really got one to be honest, they dont make them like they used to!

Made,

That's the stuff I am talking about.

Some are peerless and on a pedastal like Brooking and I can completely understand them being named by most.

But others are just you, but with a talent for football and I think that's why I liked Moncs so much.

I remember when he came on against boro and within 10 seconds had up ended Ince. got a yellow card but jumped up punching the air jumping and looking round to all the fans. what a character.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
Trevor Brooking for the very same reasons as Chigwell.

My non West Ham choice is Francesco Totti, he basically had the responsibility of one side of Rome throughout his career and still did the business........and more.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
John Moncur, (Surprise, surprise)

As a sub would run on like a Jack Russell be all energy and enthusiasm usually pick up a yellow card but had a bit more skill than was given credit for.

Was a joker in the dressing room. (See the shit in Dicks Bath story that Irish put up a while ago)

Chigwell 2:09 Mon Jul 5
Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
Trevor Brooking. Oozed class, balance and football intelligence, and was a loyal Hammer all his career.

Bungo 1:00 Mon Jul 5
Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
Honourable mention for John Paintsil, if only for the solo lap of honour he took at UP a few years back.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
West Ham it's got to be devo, sheer class both pre and post injury.

Others, Zidane, Baggio one that doesn't get mentioned so much but was insanely good in the mid to late 99s was Del Piero, another one who suffered a serious injury which would've finished most players.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
I can never choose one thing when there are always so many. Currently my favourite West Ham player in Antonio and has been for a while. I love the fact he has risen up the ranks to the top and seems such a straight forward lovely bloke. Clearly he has all the attributes to be a professional athlete but doesnt come across separate from the rest of society. Something old school about him in a really good way. I also love his energy on the pitch. I even forgive hime that poor bit of play against Palace.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
Joint Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore. Met Trev once and got him to sign a book for Blagg Jnr (whose middle name is Brooking) when Bj was just a baby and he was, exactly as expected, a Gentleman, asked me questions about him, his health, how his mum was etc.

Different for Moore as I used to be Manager of Mooro's (the pub) Sunday morning team. We used to go back to the pub in Stratford after games and Moore would be there. Did I ask him questions about how I could improve the team? Or my manager skills? Did he chat to us, ask us how we got on? Did he fuck! He just sat at the bar like a fecking God and we all genuflected. Difficult to describe the sheer presence of the man but he looked like he had a spotlight on him all the time. An awesome human being.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
Trevor Brooking and, probably, James Collins.

Honourable mention for Peter Butler.

PDC absolutely did not show "proper heart every game." He did in some home games and those are the ones that make him a West Ham legend.

Sir Trev as a Hammer but George Best was from another planet in terms of ability. Saw him rip us to shreds several times.

Re: Who's your favourite footballer?
Hard to say. I've had so many over the generations.

Hurst, Moore and Peter's were my first football heroes but I was a bit too young to truly appreciate them.

Pop Robson and Clyde Best were the next two, then Brooking. I thought Mervyn Day was the best goalie on the planet for a while. I still wonder why he didn't kick on.

I'll stop here or my response will turn into a novella.

(that means 'small book' COYI)
